散文,故名思义,就是散。“举凡国际国内的大事、社会家庭的细故、掀天之浪、一物之微、自己的一段经历、一丝感触、一撮悲欢、一星冥想、往日的凄惶、今朝的欢快,都可移于纸上,贡献读者”。它往往由一人、一事、一物出发,展开自由联想,任凭想象的翅膀翱翔古今中外、天南海北,不拘一格,浑洒成篇。曹靖华的《小米的回忆》不就是这样的吗?它就是从小米这一事物出发,展开许许多多有关小米的联想,经过精心谋篇而组织起来的。文章首先从学习毛主席的“我们所依靠的不过是小米加步枪……”、“我们是用小米加步枪打败了日本帝国主义和蒋介石的”这一论断开始,然后作者以饱满的热情,对小米展开丰富的联想:
