We have found that the liquid crystal can be oriented on a polyimide surface that has been irradiated with a low-energy neutral argon ion beam. The energy of incident ions varied from 75eV to 500eV; the integral current density varied from 20μA / cm2 to 500μA / cm2; and the angle of incidence of the measured orientation varied from 10 ° to 80 °. By controlling the process conditions, the pretilt angle of the liquid crystal can vary from 0 ° to 10 °
