由于拱坝应力分析比较困难,拱坝优化问题的求解难度较大,动荷载作用下的优化尤其困难。经过10年的努力,作者提出了一系列有效的求解方法,如静态和动态的内力展开法、设计变量指数变换法、不对称矩阵子空间迭代法和静力和动力荷载下的敏度分析方法等等,不仅可以迅速求解静荷载作用下的拱坝优化问题,并实现了动荷载作用下拱坝的体形优化。这些求解方法也适用于拱坝以外的其他结构优化,具有普遍意义。
