Among the few female emperors in our country’s feudal society, Wu Zetian in the Tang Dynasty was one of the most legendary. She ruled China for decades, having had a significant impact in history and left indelible traces. The ancients’ evaluation of Wu Zetian began with her children and even, to some extent, dates back to her reign. For more than 1,000 years, people have either praised Wu Zetian’s discernment, masculinity, or deny Wu Zetian’s appointment of cruelty officials, extortion, honor and disgrace, and diverse opinions. The recent research on Wu Zetian is even more an important topic in the study of Tang history, and has never been too cold. To the best of our knowledge, only six or seven of the biographies written exclusively for Wu Zetian in recent years have been published, excluding works written by foreign scholars. Some of these biographies are vivid and successful in writing, others are rich in historical materials. However, when the overall research on Wu Zetian has reached a high standard, how much more potential can be tapped and how should we start to write down our own characteristics when we write a biography for this historical figure? We read not long ago about Zhao Wenrun, Wang Shuanghuai co-author << Empress Wu Biography >> (Sanqin Publishing House), I think this is only 250,000 words written a new level of writing, 堪称 unique characteristics.
