一九九七年四月份,湖南衡阳市区船山路与演武坪路交叉口南面(现市有线电视台西侧),某建筑公司在距地两米处,挖出一只陶罐来,将陶罐打破,发现全部是铁钱,都锈成一砣,杂乱无章地堆积在罐内,细看边上钱币,显出乾封泉宝字样来,共计100多枚.其中天策府宝铁钱7枚(其中一枚小型)、乾封泉宝铁钱98枚:其中背天49枚(其中小型背天7枚)、背策17枚(其小型背策2枚)、背天府6枚(其中小型背天府4枚)、背天策7枚(其中小型背天策1枚、光背2枚(详见附表).后来经我们二人的努力,共收集42枚,将近一半,各种型号、版别包揽无余,余下部分,均属重复版别,分散为我市集币者收藏.现将我俩手中的全部铁钱(除成块未分开的外)共38枚,拓图附后,供钱友们研究参考.这次衡阳出土楚国铁钱,有小型天策府宝一枚,小型乾封泉宝背天府四枚、背天策一枚,前二种诸谱未载,乃首次发现.楚国铁钱,以往在湖南只有零星出土,这次窖藏出土也属首次,其数量之多、版别之全,实属罕见.
