The most influential figures in the European aluminum industry history are chemists Henri ESC Deville, chemical engineer Henri Merle, metallurgist Paul LT Heroult, Company’s general manager Alfred R Pechiney and Adrien Badin. Their influence on the early development, commercial production of the European 20th-century aluminum electrolysis technology, and the subsequent expansion of the aluminum industry in the world. The Froges was the first electric smelter to use pure aluminum from Ellufa, and most of the early factories were concentrated in the hydropower-rich Rhône-Alpes and Pyrenees. The Bessie AP cell technology from the St-Jean-de-Maurienne plant is a representative of the typical electrolytic aluminum production technology in France and has been implemented in all countries in the world with remarkable results.
