The 68th Annual Meeting of SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists) and International Symposium was held in New Orleans, USA on September 13-18, 1998. Like previous conventions, the conference divided the two parts of the conference and exhibition. The total number of participants more than 10,000, more than any previous session. Annual meeting set up a total of 18 honorary awards and awards. This year Maurice Ewing Medal (top prize) won by the famous American geophysicist Robert E. Sheriff. Mr. Chen Zuchuan, former chief engineer of the Geophysical Exploration Bureau of China National Petroleum Corporation, was awarded the title of a lifetime member and became a member of the Chinese geophysical exploration community
