Starting from the first phase of this year, we have opened a special column entitled “The Officials of the Liberal Masters,” which will gradually and selectively introduce the deeds of the honest officials in every dynasty in ancient China. In ancient China’s feudal society, there were many corrupt officials. However, a very small number of officials paid attention to their personal integrity, their personal feelings, their diligence and integrity, and some of them also had outstanding achievements. Although their subjective aim of doing so is to safeguard the rule of the feudal landlord class, objectively, it is indeed a good thing that is good for the masses of the people. Their virtue is an important part of the traditional virtues of the Chinese nation. Understanding and learning from their deeds and virtues will have a positive effect on the socialist spiritual civilization we are building today.
