This paper deseribes the results of computer simulation of pulsewidth dependence upon the physical parameters of a Ti:sapphire laser with ring cavity by means of splitstep Fourier method. It has been shown that the Kerr-lens effect which is quantitatively taken into account plays the dominant role in forming pulse and its balance with dispersion finally determines the duration of the pulse. The sell-consistent results also give a clue to further investigation on the modelocking mechanism.
