Embedded systems have been a fairly popular system architecture since the integration of powerful, cost-effective software-driven microprocessors into dedicated hardware systems. Microprocessors were still in development in the late 1970s, when software designers delayed the design process by waiting until prototypes or hardware were complete before they could start software testing and system integration. Today there are numerous admirable microprocessor and processor cores and admirable software design, compilation and debugging tools. Most of them have powerful features and the prices are acceptable.
