越来越多的中国学者呼吁构建管理的中国理论。然而,仅凭问卷统计方法和试验方法难以完成这一重任,那么案例研究适合构建管理的中国理论吗?对于这一问题,存在着诸多的争议。本文对大量相关文献进行了回顾和评析,得出了肯定的答案。其理由是:从案例研究的定义和类型方面看,探索性、描述性、解释性研究及单案例、多案例研究都适合构建管理理论,特别是多案例研究就如同是多次试验一样具有可信性。从案例研究的作用和特点看,它在研究实践中已经成为理论创新的重要工具,它在广义和狭义两方面都是一种科学的方法。同时构建管理的中国理论需研究中国的企业管理实践,最好的方法就是案例研究,案例研究比其他方法更接近真实场景,也可以进行更加深入地探索,具有不可替代的作用。再者,通过对案例研究过程中理论创新的结果控制和规范性的过程控制,能得出令人信服的理论创新成果。
More and more Chinese scholars have called for building a Chinese theory of management. However, it is difficult to accomplish this task solely by means of questionnaire statistics and test methods. So, is case study suitable for the construction of Chinese theory of management? There are many controversies on this issue. This article reviews and comments on a large number of related literatures and obtains affirmative answers. The rationale is that exploratory, descriptive, interpretive research and single- and multi-case studies are all suitable for building management theory from the point of view of the definition and type of case study, especially if multiple case studies are as numerous as trials Credibility. From the perspective of the role and characteristics of case studies, it has become an important tool of theoretical innovation in research practice. It is a scientific method in both broad and narrow sense. At the same time to build the management of China’s theory to study China’s business management practices, the best way is to case studies, case studies closer to the real scene than other methods, but also can be more in-depth exploration, with irreplaceable role. Furthermore, convincing results of theoretical innovations can be drawn through the control of the results of theoretical innovation and the normative process control in case studies.
