A new English teaching approach,WholeLanguare Teaching holds that language is a wholeand should be taught and leamd as a whloe.Thisphilosophy is now gaining ground in the UnitedStates.WLT advocates student-oriented,mean-ingful,functional and integrated instructionwhich combines the authentic use of language with direct instruction. Although the majority of thework focuses on US elementary or high schoolclassrooms, there is something in it that is new,creative and imaginative.So the idea can be bor-rowed and applied to the EFL teaching in a Chi-nese context.1. FEASIBILITY We teach adult students. Generaly speaking,they are bright and capable, in their 20 ’s or early30’s. Their linguistic level is about intermidiate orupper-intermediate, approximately equivolent tothat of US high school students. They can readquite comprehensibly.
