In Costa Rica, a small Central American country, a glittering woman’s swimming star is quietly rising. She is the daughter of Khrontia Pol, who emerged on the world swim scene in 1992. Bol for the first major international event is the 1991 Pan Pacific Championship. She was fourth in the 400m freestyle at the time and eighth in 1500m. However, she and her coach, Francisco Rivas, know she will achieve better results. Unexpected, at the September 1992 Central American and Mexican Swimming Championships, Bol swept the gold medal in all seven of her contests and set the record for the tournament. Her 200m freestyle score of 1 minute 59 seconds 30, with such a result, if she participated in the Barcelona Olympic Games two months ago, she will get a bronze medal (unfortunately she did not attend the Barcelona Olympic Games). Rivas, who coached her for 17 years, said: “At that time, her psychological conditions were not mature enough.” Ball’s turning point was held in Kobe, Japan
