语义研究是语言学不可或缺的重要部分,是语言学研究不可回避的重要课题,更是潜藏着语言重大奥秘的领域。然而,由于语义研究的繁杂性、多学科交叉性、使得语义研究无明显的系统性。徐通锵也因此提出“语义学著述一般都缺乏系统性,各章节之间往往缺乏内在联系。”学生在学习语义学这门课程和阅读语义学相关教材和著述的时候也明显感到语义学的庞杂和繁复,这种局面亟待改善。《意义与认知范畴化》是张维鼎教授集自己多年来在四川大学外国语学院开设《认知语言学》《语义学》《文化语言学》课程的经验和心得,悉心撰写而就的语义学著作。该书不同于传统的语义学教材,另辟蹊径,“以认知语言学的基本理论——认知经验范畴化和隐喻为视角和线索,探讨和审视传统语义学的一些重要问题”(张维鼎,2007)。
