As the frequency of the fire increases and the population and demand for forests increase, there is a need for ways to assess the impact of fire in tropical forests. The short-term and long-term effects of fire on soil depend on the environment before, during, and after fire. We put these components in a fire disturbance continuum for our literature analysis and proposed a comprehensive soil fire severity index. The soil fire severity index contains a set of indicators that reflect the state of existence after an overheating. The index has seven levels, one unfired level, and six levels that describe the state of the soil after the fire. We think the index can be used to study the effects of fire on the surface of forests and it is believed that as new information is available, the index may change (as we predicted).
