If the deserted Arabian Peninsula is compared to a boot, then Yemen, where the mountains stand, is right at the bottom of the boot. Yemen is located on the southwestern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, bordered by the open Libbhali Desert to the north, the Indian Ocean to the south, Oman and the Persian Gulf in the east, the Mande Strait to the west and Somalia in the Horn of Africa. Because of its strategic position in holding the Red Sea and communicating the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean extremely important, Yemen has always been the place where military strategists contend. In modern times, it has also become the imposing naval transport hub for European colonialists.
