宋代立国三百年,学术研究气氛异常活跃,在中国古代学术史上,历来有汉学、宋学之称,它们分别代表着中国古代传统学术的两大高峰。宋学作为与汉学相对的一极,以其独具的特色与辉煌的成就,展现出中国古代文化的魅力。不过在传统的小学方面,宋代学术的成就并不在兹,就其总体而言,其成就应该说是上不如汉代,下不及清代,在这一时代也没有产生如汉儒经学、清代小学那样的大家和论著。然而侭管如此,宋代小学的成就仍然不可低估。
