Chen Jianhui’s essay monograph “Poetic Imagination - Centennial Prose Theory System and Cultural Discourse Construction” was published by Guangdong People’s Publishing House in July 2014. Essays are the major genres in Chinese literature. However, because of the numerous creative situations and limitations of traditional theories, it is difficult to define and speak essays. The theoretical construction of essay has also been a difficult problem for academics. Compared with the vigorous poetry, novels and drama theory, the construction of essay theory can be described as impoverished and lackluster.
