Almost at the same time as Byron, another remarkable representative of the British revolutionary romanticism, Shelley, a great British poet, appeared in literature. His political and aesthetic views are very similar to those of Byron, and the disharmony of British bourgeois society is entirely at odds with Byron, but Shelley also enriches Britain with some of the new ideas that Byron barely touches literature. In comparing Shelley and Byron, the Marxist classics took note of the respective characteristics of these two great English poets. Engels believed that Byron was characterized by his satirical and lyrical “passionate feeling” of social politics; at Shelley, he first pointed out that the insight of his genius enabled him to see the fate of the future of mankind. Engels wrote in The State of the Working Class in England: “Shelley is a talented prophet, and Byron is full of warm emotions and a sharp irony of society at that time; both of them have the most extensive reader.……”
