The structure of the Benioff belt along the Andes shows that there is a large difference in the shape, slope and depth of the Benioff belt in different sections of the mountain range. At the northern and southern Andes, the dip and depth of the Benioff belt are significantly smaller and shallower than the central part. The only part of the Andean deep earthquakes (more than 500 km) is consistent with the larger inclined seismic zone in the central Andes, where a deep and well-developed trench (between the Carnegie Ridge and Juan Fernand; South latitude 5 ° -33 °, Figure 2).
