钇基重稀土硅铁合金在七十年代初,北京有色金属研究总院曾以江西混合重稀土氧化物为原料,炼制出性能良好的无镁球化剂——钇基重稀土硅铁合金,由于成本太高难于推广使用。赣州有色冶金研究所从1976年起,在以重稀土氧化物为原料的基础上,充分利用重稀土提取工艺中的下料,制取廉价的氢氧化稀土原料,改进了炉型和工艺参数,使稀土实收率创造了90%的新水平,大幅度降低了成本。多年来进行小批量生产,提供用户需要,荣获国家经委优秀新产品证书和金龙奖章。六十年代初期,我国铸造行业利用丰富的轻稀土资源,试制成功稀土镁球墨铸铁,并迅速广泛地用于生产。重稀土元素钇作铸铁球化剂,国外在六十年代即开始试验,钇之所以可作为铸铁球化剂,也和可作球化剂的轻稀土元素一样,除具有强烈的脱硫脱氧作用外,还能使石墨球化,提高铸铁的韧性与延展性,特别是重稀土较轻稀土显示有抗衰退的特征,近年来重稀土球化剂,弥补轻稀土性能的不足,使钇基重稀土硅铁合金步入球化剂行列,已先后被大断面铸铁件、流水作业线、稀土耐热钢、特种工具钢以及铸铁焊条等领域所应用,取得了良好的效果。
