CD和DVD史话 CD技术在电脑领域的应用已经极大地方便了文件的交换,每张CD光盘约650MB的容量足以包容当前普通应用环境下一定数量的数据、图像、音频和视频等文件！所以,尽管CD技术在光盘和驱动器的许多方面已取得了不少进步(例如CD-R新光盘类型的出现、CD-ROM驱动器倍速的激增等),但各类CD光盘的容量却几乎停滞在650MB的起跑线上。 如同应用的深入会对互联网带宽的需求不断增长一样,人们对移动存储介质的容量也不会轻易知足的。当CD技术在计算机的世界里开始红火的时候,卓有远见的Philips、Sony公司与Toshiba、TimeWarner等公司在1994年底至1995年初竞相推出了新一代的密度更高的多媒体光盘规格,这就是DVD(Digital Video Disk,数字视频光盘)技术的前身。后来,DVD联盟的正式成立、许多厂商的纷纷参与、媒体的炒作等因素使DVD焕发着诱人的前景,DVD技术被许多人看作是CD技术的取代者,可谓“青出于蓝而胜于蓝”。
CDs and DVDs The history of CD technology in the computer field has greatly facilitated the exchange of files. Each CD has a capacity of about 650 MB, enough to accommodate a limited amount of data, images, audio, and video files in today’s normal application environment! So while CD technology has made a lot of progress in many aspects of CDs and drives (such as the emergence of new CD-R types, the proliferation of CD-ROM drives, etc.), the capacity of various types of CDs has almost stagnated 650MB starting line. As applications continue to grow in demand for Internet bandwidth, people will not be content with mobile storage media. When CD technology began to thrive in the computer world, far-sighted Philips, Sony and Toshiba, TimeWarner and others, competed in late 1994 and early 1995 to launch a new generation of higher density multimedia discs, which is known as DVD (Digital Video Disk, digital video disc) technology predecessor. Later, the formal establishment of the DVD Alliance, many manufacturers have participated in, the media hype and other factors make the DVD glow with attractive prospects, DVD technology is considered by many as a replacement for CD technology, can be described as “out of the blue and outweigh the blue” .
