Recordist theory is an important theoretical faction of western modern film aesthetics. Its characteristics are emphasizing the photographic nature of the film and its recording function, and devaluing the role of formal elements such as plot structure and montage. This theory has a great influence on the modern western movie creation and deserves our attention. Two articles in this issue were selected from the two most important representations of the doctrine of the theory of recordation: Andrea Bazan’s “What is a movie?” (1958-1965) and Kraquet’s “ Nature ”(1961). In view of the large length of these works, although it is still necessary for Chinese film publishers to organize their translations and publications, the publication will continue to be selected first in order to readers.
