最早的“庙会”一词,其意是指“在宗庙中聚会”,如《后汉书·张纯传》所言:“元始五年,诸王公列侯庙会,始为禘祭”。后来,又把在寺庙内或其附近定期举行的集市,叫做“庙会”。如清人张培仁在《妙香室丛话·财运》中写到:“京师隆福寺,每月九日,百货云集,谓之庙会。”庙会,又称“庙市”。如《二刻拍案惊奇》卷三所说:“京师有个风俗,每遇初一、十五、二十五日,谓之庙市,凡百般货物俱赶在城隍庙前,直摆到刑部街上来卖。”庙会的“会”,其义着眼于大众聚会,人众繁多;庙市的“市”,其义着眼于这种场所主要是个市场,买卖交易繁众。庙会的这种“会”和“市”的特点都有。我家乡三里外有个沙庄,每年三月三日有庙会,小时候听大人讲,沙庄有个老奶奶庙,这位老奶奶是泰山老奶奶的姊妹。这个庙会解放后还盛行了几年,
