This is a typical day of the blood / oncologists career. In order to save time, while the nurses are preparing for the gap downstairs, I went to the oncology clinic for a new patient. The patient has recently been diagnosed with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer and there is currently a progressive dysphagia and pressure swallowing due to mediastinal lymph node compression. Having combed the questions asked for the patients on my mind, I entered the clinic with a medical resident and met a middle-aged woman and her two escorts. After introducing myself, I started to ask her some basic information, and she answered some of the questions, but almost never looked at me in the process.
