广东省汕头市话剧团,六年来一直保持艰苦朴素、勤俭办团的作风,坚持在农村为农民演出,曾受到当地文化领导部门多次表扬。潮汕地区的农民都喜欢看地方戏曲——潮剧和汉剧,从来没有看过话剧。1957年,汕头市成立了话剧团,开始在潮汕地区农村演出,碰到不少困难。首先是农民兄弟不习惯看话剧。他们说:“没锣没鼓,没歌没舞,算是什么戏。”“话剧原来是在台上讲讲故事。”个别农民甚至当面嘲讽演员。……总之,农民不欢迎,剧场的管理人员对话剧团也兴趣不大。话剧团的同志们认真地研究了这种情况,认为除了农民不习惯看话剧之外,当时演出的剧目与农民生活距离较远也是原因(当时是演“五四”剧目)。当地的党政领导一再给剧团鼓励支持,希望他们演出一些反映现实生活斗争的剧目,像《刘介梅》《智取威虎山》《烈火红心》以及后来的《降
