The nature of the “delamination” of 06MnVAl steel plate appeared in low temperature pressure vessel was studied by electron microscope, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray energy spectrum analysis. The experimental results show that the “delamination” on the macroscopic fracture is actually the result of the separation of the sulfide from the matrix when the sulfide is elongated in the rolling direction and intercepted in the fracture. The fracture toughness was measured to evaluate the effect of flake inclusions on crack propagation. The experimental results show that the fracture toughness of the material does not decrease significantly when the rolling direction, ie, the elongation direction of the sheet inclusions is perpendicular to the pre-cracking. In other words, the sheet-like inclusions distributed concentrically in the pressure vessel have no significant effect on the crack growth in the vertical direction.
