普宁县图书馆于1979年独立编制原馆舍仅有200平方米。1983年承蒙华侨杨扣老先生捐资100万港元(当时折人民币55万元),省拨款10万元,县财政拨款10万元,合共75万余元兴建,1984年9月建成图书馆新楼,整座大楼总建筑面积2638平方米。馆内分设四室(少儿阅览室、成人报刊阅览室、内部资料阅览室、外借室);三厅(视听教育厅、学术报告厅、会议厅);一部(服务部);五库(藏书库)和一个流动“汽车图书馆”。现有藏书约十四万册。自1984年开放以来,共办理借书证7420份,接待读者110万人次;接待海内外各阶层人士参观访问360批次,16万人次,取得一定社会效益,多
