In order to breed new tobacco varieties, the ability of candidate strains to produce original chemical smoke with ideal chemical characteristics needs to be assessed early in the breeding process. A large number of candidate strains require the use of rapid measurement tools instead of chemical analysis. Due to NIRS, a series of chemical parameters and more complex characterization data can be obtained directly from the determination of milled tobacco smoke.
