According to N Engl J Med, Volume 342, Issue 1, 2000, group B streptococcal infections are the leading cause of neonatal death and can make pregnant and older adults sick. Many cases of neonatal disease during childbirth with preventive antibiotics can be prevented. In the 1990s, the results of prevention were steadily increasing.
