In math class, after reading the animation of “Cao Chongzhengxiang”, I asked the question: Why did Cao Chong scored a mark on the ship’s railboard? The students told me that the marking is to ensure that the weight of the elephant is equal to that of the stone. It seems that they have understood the success of Cao Chong’s claim as transforming the weight of elephants into stone weights. A well-known story is endowed with mathematical meaning, “a problem solving strategy with a transformational strategy.” The textbook first provides two slightly complicated graphics (Figure 1), allowing students to compare the size of the area.
