1978年春刘顺堂在陕西大荔县段家乡解放村东的甜水沟发现一个比较完整的人头骨化石，属早期智人中较古老的类型，代表一个新的亚种-智人大荔亚种（Homosopiensdaliensis），俗称大荔人[1]。这一发现填补了我国人类发展史上的一个空缺。据铀系年龄，大荔人的时限为019～0．23MaB
In the spring of 1978, Liu Shutang found a relatively complete human skull fossil in the sweet ditch at the east of Jiefang Village, Duanli Township, Dali County, Shaanxi Province. It belongs to the older type of Homo sapiens and represents a new subspecies of Homosopiens daliensis, , Commonly known as Dali people [1].
