从1998年底以来,“科普”作品出版情况出现了一个令人不解的现象:一些没有多少科学内涵的书如《水晶头骨之谜》、《上帝的指纹》等,被正规的出版社大量印刷发行,且被冠以“科普作品”的美名,与真正的科普作品《时间简史》等并列。据中国科学院主办的《科学世界》杂志调查,在大中学生中约有60%以上的人都把《水晶头骨之谜》等书认为是“严谨的科学著作”。
