The Z-80 microprocessor chipset is just as big a move as the 8008 to 8080. The throughput of the Z-80 is two to five times that of them, but it takes only half to one-fourth of its program memory. This machine has 158 CPUs, including 78 of the 8080A’s in total. Each instruction executes an average of 1.5 microseconds, using pipelined I / O and interrupts.
