西藏的第三纪地层零星分布在全区各地。所含动、植物化石丰富,是我国研究第三纪地层的重要地区之一。第三纪地层的沉积建造复杂,有浅海相碳酸盐建造;属陆相的有含煤建造,蒸发岩建造,含油、气建造,火山岩建造和磨拉石建造。在地质时代上,从老第三纪的古新世至新第三纪的上新世都有其代表。研究西藏第三纪地层对我区区测、矿产普查勘探以及探讨青藏高原隆起的原因等方面都具有一定意义。
The Tertiary strata in Tibet are sporadically distributed throughout the region. Containing dynamic and rich plant fossils, is China’s Tertiary stratigraphy an important area. The Tertiary stratigraphic deposits are complex and have shallow marine carbonates. They are continental coal-bearing constructions, evaporite constructions, oil and gas constructions, volcanic rock formations and molasse constructions. In the geologic age, from the Neoproterozoic to the Neogene, the Neogene has its own representative. It is of great significance to study the Tertiary stratigraphy of Tibet to the survey of the area survey and mineral prospecting and the reasons for the uplift of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
