国产第三代坦克抢救车辆84式坦克抢救牵引车列装后,在一定程度上解决了包括96式主战坦克在内的新型主战坦克抢救、后送和野战修理问题。但随着车重更重的99式主战坦克的列装,以79式坦克底盘为基础改进的84式坦克抢救牵引车就显得有些力不从心了,迫切需要同步发展功率更大的新型坦克抢救牵引车。同时,随着未来交战节奏的加快,装备保障不能再墨守成规、四平八稳,必须及时有效地进行抢救维修,这也要求抢救牵引车必须具有能牵、能拉、能吊、能修的“多面手”功能,发展“一车多能”的第三代坦克抢救牵引车迫在眉睫。第三代坦克抢救牵引车目前包括两款,即采用90-Ⅱ
