In recent years, with the rise of post-colonialism criticism, George Eliot’s swan sing “Daniel Deronda” has become a research hotspot. But most of the researchers focused on the Jewish theme, ignoring Eliot’s reference to other races. Based on the image of Lidia, another heroine in the novel, this essay analyzes Eliot ’s criticism of colonialism and the rewriting of British character. Eliot’s description of Lydia’s exoticism has a reference to blacks, and she reconstructs the connotation of British nature by showing the complex relationship between colonizers and colonists.
