Although elevated levels of arsenic(As)are widely present in groundwater systems in the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna Delta(GBMD)of India and Bangladesh, the river water contains low levels of As.This is mainly attributed to the sequestration of As in the Fe-oxide Permeable Natural Reactive Barrier(PNRB)at the riverbanks.
