(A) In recent years, the trend of the youth research community in China has not been what we initially expected: a somewhat fanatical “climax of discipline development” is becoming a thing of the past despite the publication of a number of youth research works with a variety of “studies” But their academic value is doubtful. There is neither a unique solution to a major theoretical issue nor a credible explanation of a series of urgent and realistic problems. The deficiencies in youth research once covered by “discipline building” (ie, establishing “one or more” sciences) are now becoming more and more exposed. Just by taking academic discussions as an example, discussions on some issues (such as “generation gap” and “ideological tendencies of contemporary youth”) can no longer jump out of the old fashioned tone. Instead of strictly defining concepts and terms, Very clear theoretical ideas stirred chaos. The intentions of those looking to “learn” to strengthen the status of young people in the field of social science are also lost. Recent advances in some related disciplines have eclipsed the study of youth.
