王青公路,即武汉市王家店至青山镇的公路,北起冶金大道,南止老武黄公路,是武汉市青山区六大出口道路之一,也是武东地区唯一一条南北向道路。从地理位置上看,这是一条名副其实的“咽喉要道”。然而,由于路面强度差、无雨污排管网等先天不足,加上年久失修、常年超负荷承载,从上世纪末开始,这条公路就陆续出现路面错台、路基沉陷,导致部分路段无法正常通行。2003年1月武汉市十一届人大一次会议上,市人大代表杜庆华首次向大会提交了改造王青公路的建议。转眼三年过去了,伴随着从新王青公路上传来的第一声汽车轰鸣,北段武冶机修至冶金大道1.2公里路段正式宣告通车,同时,它也给这件市区两级人大连续三年督办的代表建议画上了一个圆满的句号。
