发展中国家相互间的经济关系、合作和一体化,是当代世界新的和复杂的现象之一。这一过程的基础,是由于帝国主义的前殖民地外围国家奠定国家独立所取得的成就、建立独立的民族经济所遇到的困难以及在当代科技革命影响下经济活动的加速国际化而产生的一些政治因素和经济因素。发展中国家相互间的合作为国际经济关系开辟了新的渠道,同时也是民族解放运动现阶段的重要特征;已解放国家在政治上团结起来的过程愈来愈由于经济方面的合作而得到加强。
