On August 20, 1998, China Eco-Economics Society held a high-level academic symposium on floods in Beijing. At the meeting, experts and scholars followed the scientific ideas of ecological economics and conducted a reflection on the current situation of the extraordinary floods that hit China and other countries at home and abroad and the national eco-economic construction. In June 1998, there was heavy rainfall in the Yangtze River and Songhua River basins in our country. Some areas in the basin even suffered from heavy rainfall, large amount of precipitation, long duration, large number of occasions and a wide range of areas, all rare in the same period of history.
